Careers- Fashion Journalist

A fashion journalist incorporates interesting, creative, entertaining and imaginative ways in which to discuss the fashion industry.

Their job would entail many tasks, including communicating the constantly changing fashion market to a wide audience, keeping on top of new ranges, designers and trends, attending press open days, catwalk shows, researching other fashion media, interviewing designers, organising and attending fashion shoots, writing and editing features and news stories.

Hours would vary, with no set hours- late evening work the norm. Deadlines would influence the amount of hours put in on a day to day basis.

The starting salary for a fashion journalist is £14,000-£16,000 rising to £22,500 with experience on board. National magazine journalists could reach £40,000

The fashion journalists frequently work with other within their field, such as photographers, TV/radio crews, designers and freelance writers.

They have to persistent, able to take responsibility for their work and to accept criticism, and capable of producing many different types of write-up.
